Probably one of the weirdest bands to achieve major commercial and artistic success in their era. Not strictly prog, not strictly AOR, weird jazz and classical influences throughout, two lead singer songwriters with entirely different styles and voices, lyrics ranging from the mundane to the existential, catchy pop songs along side 12 minute prog epics, folk influences too, a lead guitarist who doesn't play much lead guitar with a voice as high as Geddy! Love these guys, just all around strange beautiful group with a rather unassuming legacy.
Idiosyncratic prog pop, indeed. Great, great band.
If you’ve not heard Crime of the Century, definitely set aside 45 minutes for it. You will be rewarded!
Oh I've heard Crime. Pure proggy abandon with a pop sensibility. I'm most familiar with these two and Breakfast In America, though I've also heard Crisis, but it didn't do much for me.
Yeah, I have not heard Crisis for awhile; it doesn’t have any standout brilliant songs that come to my mind right away, either. But maybe that just means I need to put it on again.
