Cygnus And The Sea Monsters says it all!!

Portnoy got his blue beard idea from Peart!

HAHAHA!

Mike actually drives a "Blue Barchetta"

The ultimate Neil Peart poser.

I thought that was me! LOL!

Portnoy tries to be a fan of every famous band!

But wait a fuckking minute. HOLD THE PRESSES!

I thought someone just wrote that Mike Portannoy hates RUSH after Moving Pictures.

He just said he loved RUSH from 1981-1987.

Unfucckinngreal.

I'm older than Mike and I'm Nobody's Hero.

I found Rush too in 1981. Should have been 1980.

But man I went back in time and fell in love with the old stuff.

I learned how to play "Hemispheres" when I was a teen. Not "Signals."

Although fun too.

It is what is is.

Life isn't fair but as much as I love to rip on Mike he is one talented son of a bitch.

He didn’t say he liked Rush’s stuff that was written after Signals. He said he liked Rush between ‘81-‘87.

I liked Rush in 2007. I didn’t like Snakes & Arrows.

Think about it.

I think he once tried to sing BABE but he sounded more like the Babe in the film Babe!

He was always a jerk when I met him when was a lot back in Images and Awake daze.

The Lars Ulrich of prog.

Two dicks two assholes.

The perfect fit.

I loved "Snakes And Arrows" when it came out. My raving review is still in the "Archives" on here somewhere.

Get it Rush fans?

Do modern RUSH fans even know about the "Archives" Rush release? Vinyl and cassettes.

I still have both.

I wish Mercury would reissue "Archives" on cd and vinyl. Remastered by who? Steven Wilson?

I got Archives before I got the first three albums. I think most people did who got into RUSH after 1978.

That was the whole point.

He just blew my buddy and I off.

We were sitting with the band at The Stone in SF.

Images Tour.

James.

Myung

John

Kevin

ALL COOL!

Mike was just in his own world.

Then I met the band again on the AWAKE TOUR.

The Fillmore. SF.

Same shit.

So coincidence?

I don't think so.

Fuckk Lars too.

I will never see Metallica again.

Last time I saw Metallica was for FREE!

YUP!

They pulled up in the Oakland parking lot in a 53 footer. Rolled the fuckking side of the trailer up and shredded for 30 minutes.

It was before the AFC Championship Raiders Titans Game. Fuckking EPIC.

No need to give Metallica any of my money again.

Although I did pay to see DT to play Images all they way through at The Fox in Oakland. AMAZING.

That's incredible Pat. I never would have guessed that!

That is incredible marketing by Mercury!

After they almost released RUSH into the streets after the "DOWN THE TUBES" TOUR. Or was it DOWN THE DRAIN TOUR 1975?????

Earl, I met Mike twice, and he was awesome both times. Once during the Black Coulds and Silver Lining tour where you could somewhat see that he was burnout with all the Dream Theater machine, but was caring nonetheless. A dude in front of me brought an edition of "In the Court of Crimson King" and asked him to sign it. He spoke with the guy about the album for a good three minutes and signed it for him. I asked him one or two questions and he didn´t seem dismissive or "in his own world".

My other encounter was when he played a one-off show with Fates Warning in 2011, opening for Queensryche. I had a Frank Zappa shirt and met him at the hotel lobby. He made a comment on it (as did Geoff Tate). The other guys had to pull him out from the crowd because their van needed to go to the venue for soundcheck, but he kept on signing stuff and taking photos.

Sorry for the ranty two cents there, I don't really disagree with you so much as I just wanted to put my opinion out there.

Nothing ranty about your post

in my opinion. I think you make good points and appreciate your response.

EP, I know I've said this before, but you should write about music.

I find your posts thoughtful and considered. You should send a piece to UCR, just to see. You never know, maybe they'll have you writing exciting things about Dio holograms and withered Hair bands!

Lol, I know, and I thank you for your compliments! I would kind of love to write about music, but I can't help but feel like I'd also kind of hate to write about it if only for the system it's gonna put me in that I tend to find somewhat corrupt and flailing. I enjoy reading stuff from Team Rock, UCR, Pitchfork...heck, even RS isn't always completely awful. But in a way, Yoko was right when she said "writing about music is like dancing about architecture," lol. I don't think they'd want my 100% honest opinions over there, especially when the opinion tends to be oh so subjective, lol.

On the other hand, I really admire some of the youtube mini stars out there who are reacting to and critiquing music. Theneedledrop and Lost In Vegas are my favorite YT channels. Maybe someday I could do something a little more low key like that, maybe ;)

oops! That was addressed to EP, but yes, from what I've read of your posts, this also applies to you! :)
