Texas King
Two prominent power pop bands. Your pick? Trick FTW!
edhunter
The singer from Weezer was in a college class with me in '87-88. My doublecheck was originally built for Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick. I'll go with AC/DC.

Entre_Perpetuo
Cheap Trick may be awesome, but imo they don't have a Blue album, a White album, or a Pinkerton. Plus Weezer just mean more to me.

No, but they something called IN COLOR, which is better than all three of those combined Weezer is a good band, but Cheap Trick is immortal

However, it's gonna take a heck of a lot to trump those three Weezer albums imo. Cheap Trick is gonna basically have to be like Yes or better. A Kiss level band (much as I love Kiss) ain't gonna cut it,

goose
The highs are better with Cheap Trick, but Weezer's full body of work is stronger, imo. Went with Weezer. Edited November 11, 2017 by goose

Disagree that it's better than all three of those combined, or really any one of them. Big Eyes is about the only track that comes real close to Weezer's level of greatness circa 1994-1996 and 2016. However, I did enjoy it and it was a solid punk rock translation of ELO's interpretation of The Beatles. Also mainly good songs, fine arrangements, dead production. Stormtron
I don't dislike Cheap Trick but they never did much for me. Weezer has a few bad albums but win on the strength of the first two. Yeeeaahhhhh YEAH YEAH.
JohnnyBlaze
What's next, Debbie Gibson vs Imagine Dragons? JohnnyBlaze
Cheap Trick overall but the Buddy Holly video is one of my favorite vids of all time. http://cbsnews2.cbsistatic.com/hub/i/r/2015/10/31/bee8856c-a76e-4010-84c8-e4680dd29d2c/thumbnail/620x350/acffdb484818cd97fc21814e29464d6a/al-molinaro-obit-getty-93741017.jpg

invisible airwave
Cheap vs Cars is a more valid comparison since they’re of the same era and Ric Ocasek has produced some of Weezers albums.
