Certain sections are a study in how snare ghost notes get lost in the final production.

A great example of that reality is the T4E album.  LIstening to it, the drums don't sound all that creative.  Watching what he's actually doing during "A Work In Progress" sheds light on all the little parts that get lost in the final mix.

This rare drum clinic is worth watching, he plays three or four songs and you can hear a lot of those subtle little things he's doing, lots of interesting things said and he's in a really friendly mood, paints him in a different picture but this is obviously before his tragedies!  The sound improves a couple of minutes in;        https://www.youtube....h?v=CBNfDggYVlw

If anyone here plays the drums, can you tell me if the drums to this song are difficult to play?  I'm listening to the remaster of Signals and just noticed the drums in the song. Some fancy playing in parts it sound like to me.

I've been playing to Rush music on the drums since 1982.  That opening fill on "Digital Man" is fukking amazing and incredible.  Hard to replicate.

I have said this on here for years.  "Digital Man" is a masterpiece.

Of course you can hear some of The Police in "Signals" and GUP."  The boys were heavily influenced by The Police for those records.

Not sure if I have told this story but why not type it again.  This comes from one of my best buddies who is a professional drummer in the business.

Perhaps it is public knowledge now.

So Stewart Copeland many decades ago went to see RUSH.  Not sure on the year.  I can't remember.
Stevie waited backstage to meet Neil to say hello and talk music.
Neil totally blew him off.

Typical Neil.

He blows off his fans and other drummers.

I believe since then though the two have become friends.

It's common knowledge that Stewart showed up for the last ever afterparty for RUSH at The Forum gig.

Wait a minute...

Who's Stevie? Your friend?

Or is that a typo for 'Stewie' (Copeland)?

Neil stood up your pal Stevie?

Or did Neil stand up Stewart Copeland then told your pro drummer pal?

All of the above? None of the above?

What the hell's goin' on Earl?!

Neil probably stood up both of them!!!

Signed,

Every Little Thing He Snorts Is Magic

:hail:

Damn it JB!  YES!  A TYPO!!!  UGH!  My English Degree was just flushed down the toilet!  I did mean Stewie!  Must have been a Freudian Slip with Stevie Ray Vaughan on the mind!

Good call!  UGH

To tell you the truth, I was going to send you a pm to ask this question but thought to search for a Digital Man thread instead.

I heard a few things in the song that made me think that it would be difficult for an inexperienced drummer to replicate.  I was listening to the remastered Signals album when I heard those parts.  I'll see if I can find it on youtube and post it here and point out the parts of the song to you.

You are right that DM is a masterpiece.

Yes my dear friend.

I will always be honest and truthful in public or in private.

You are a wonderful woman.

Post it Lorraine!

RUSH RULES!

YOU RULE!

HAHAHA!!!!
Funny buddy!  Thank you for the laugh on this most horrific day in America!

Thank God or Whoever I have the ability to play to RUSH music on the drums.
Something that is for me.  I am nothing but an amateur.
But it doesn't matter.
I have my "precious cargo."  My daughters.
I cherish them and they know it.
I've done something right in my life.
I am an awesome dad.
Something that I am sure some of you can't believe!  LOL!

Not bad for a drug addict, CAPS ON alcoholic drunk narcissist loud mouth blow hard!  I'm Earl III Call me TRUMP JR!

It doesn't matter kids. Adults.
Do whatever you can that makes you happy.
Drumming alone makes me so happy!!
Playing to RUSH makes me so happy!!
There are so many more talented drummers on here who post their bands and their covers and music.

Love it.

Life is short.

Go listen to "The Sphere."

I played that song at my wedding.  I thought I would be married forever.

It failed.

50% on me.

Life goes on Analog Kids.

Don't listen to me.

Become Digital Men and Digital Women on your own "FREEWiLL."

Freewill is real.

Make the right choices in life and stay alive and thrive!

I am out!

I love you RUSH FORUM!

Times are tough.

Forget politics.

LET'S ALL STAND "UNITED!"  FUCKK THE PUPPETS IN CHARGE!

A good day to count your blessings.

I just took up drums this week after five years of not playing at all.  It feels great!

:syrinx:

P.S.  I listened to Meliora today.  :haz:
