Anyone up for a Gods Of Rock Vocals poll ??

Would certainly be fine with that. Dio and Rob Halford need to be in it though.

and Cornell and Bennington :(

Cornell definitely.

Bennington could be in it but he won't advance at all. Too many better voices to choose from.

In the setting of this forum, he probably won't advance, you're probably right, and I probably wouldn't even vote for him myself as I was never really the hugest Linkin Park fan. But I won't say that he couldn't hold his own against a lot of the greats. Cornell, Dio, Brian Johnson. I'd say Bennington could go toe to toe with all of them.

Now Mercury, or Halford, or Plant is another story...

He could go toe to toe with Brian Johnson but he's not even in the same league as Cornell or Dio.

Definitely disagree on Cornell. Cornell might've been a bit more expressive across the board, but Chester's pure rage is enough to square him up with Chris imo. I can see where you're coming from with Dio, but I still disagree.

I'd be more interested in a bass players poll.

I call a Geddy vs Chris Squire final.

I'd hope John Deacon would make it to the semi-finals in that.

I'd put Bon Scott in ahead of Brian Johnson.

Would female vocalists be included in that? If not, why not?

Fearing that she'd feel left out, I would definitely include Boots

Getting 120 guitarists went quick - this poll could have easily been 160 or 200

Vocalists, let me start jotting names down ... The thing about including both male and female is that a lot of the very good fringe nominees would get left out ....

Sure, Lonnie Mack and Roy Buchanan ( for example ) didn't have a chance to with this poll, but it was interesting to see if they were going to get any votes, and if so, who cast them ( .. and both guys did receive votes )

So if the vocalist poll is male only ( with a female vocalists poll definitely coming next ), I think it would be interesting to include some odd names here and there ..

Also, with a male rock vocalist poll, there would be room for everyone - not necessarily just metal - David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Roger Daltrey etc ..

Seeing the different styles go up against each other would be fun .. You know the final 10 would be heavyweights

I'm wise to your tricks trickster! You'd maneuver performers into specific sections in an attempt to eliminate people you don't want AND to have the big guns (who you want) go as deep as possible.

And the polls are now closed

By a landslide, the GOD OF THE ELECTRIC GUITAR has been officially crowned

Ladies and Gentleman, Mr Johnny Allen Hendrix, better know as Jimi

3rd place goes to a man who not only is a genius on the instrument, but also in his everyday life

Brian May

And he created his own guitar out of a fireplace!

Jimmy Page finishing 4th is a bit of a disappointment for him though.

You probably forgot but he barely made the finals as it is. He squeaked in at the very last second.

Yeah but Page is a guy who usually tops polls like this with his Led Zep popularity.
