Gods Of The Electric Guitar SEMI FINALS

37 members have voted

  1. 1. Group One - Choose THREE From This Group

  2. 2. Group Two - Choose THREE From This Group

  3. 3. Group Three - Choose THREE From This Group

Now it starts to get difficult

There were some surprises in Round One: Dave Mustaine getting almost twice as many votes as Marty Friedman was one .. Gary Moore not making the semis shocked me .. and also the disappointing finish for Al DiMeola ..

But that is history, and now we move on to Round Two

- In this round, you have THREE votes in each of the three groups of 10 .. So you have nine votes total ..

- The top three in each group will move on to the next round

HAVE FUN

This is going to be hard .. There will be some very difficult choices to make

Mustaine could play everything Marty could and then some, great as Marty was, he could only go toe to toe with Dave for so long.

ok, here's the tally from Round One

Every guitarist who earned double digit votes, regardless of which group they were in, advanced .. It worked out well because I did not see anyone who was left out because he was in a more "difficult" group ( the NFL Wild Card Syndrome )

Here's how it broke down:

Hendrix - 26

Alex - 25

Page - 24

Gilmour - 22

VH - 22

Howe - 20

Iommi - 19

Randy - 18

May - 17

SRV - 15

Clapton - 15

Blackmore - 13

Townshend - 13

BB King - 12

Keith - 12

Beck - 12

Santana - 11

Chuck - 11

Zappa - 11

Mustaine - 11

Metheny - 11

Knopfler - 11

Les Paul - 10

Schenker - 9

Tipton - 9

Perry ( Joe not Claudia ) - 9

Hackett - 9

Holdsworth - 9

Space Ace - 8

Fripp - 8

And I felt it best to change the groups for a better balance .. I used my discretion as far as mixing the styles and eras

That is correct

And to be impartial, I PMd a voter who did not vote for either, and asked them to break the tie

Sorry, that simply isn't true...Dave has always had a neoclassical shredder to accompany him and play the really difficult solos....Not taking anything away from his abilities at all as he could walk into most bands as a lead player, but he can't match the fluidity and complexity of Friedman et al.....he is even quoted one time when talking about Chris Poland that "he could play circles around me"

Of course his real strength is songwriting, but purely based on technical axe proficiency I can't agree with you.

Somehow this was much easier this round :hail:

...rejecting BB and Page just had to be done considering who else is in group 3

Nope. Page is GOD!!

Well, your GOD probably won't make it to the finals.

If he had been in the first or second groups here I probably would've voted for him.

I did vote for him in the first round though.

welp there goes my non-popular votes.

that's ok, i'd rather be cast-out than cool ;)

At least SOME of your first round picks must've reach this round, no?

I think I counted 14 of my 21 picks from round 1 here.

yes they did, and some will make the finals. But I think it's a forgone conclusion that it will be EVH in the end. There's so many more guitarists that I enjoy more than him.

I think it's shit that Les Paul likely won't make it past this round. People must think that only guitar playing from the 80s on is relevant. That guitar that you're doing 'diddly, diddly, diddly, wee wee wee' on it has his f***ing name on it.

It depends on what your reasons are for voting the way you did. Sure he invented that guitar, but who listens to Les Paul play guitar?

I love Gilmour too, but he's nowhere near the GOD that Page is.

1) Eddie didn't have the most votes in the first round and he doesn't currently have the most here either. So it's uncertain that he'll be champ.

2) I voted for Les Paul again! I need to cheat in order for him to progress!!!

That's debatable. But it's not debatable that he's losing.

So Schon didn't make it and Lifeson did even though Lifeson stole riffs from Schon back in the 70's?
