Petty never failed to draw big crowds. I remember when he was touring in 2010/2011 he sold out the 20,000 capacity amphitheatre here so fast that they added a second show there the following week. Absolutely insane. When do you hear about anyone doing that in North America in recent years?
Aside from Garth Brooks...  :P

Either this past month or in October, he sold out seven days in the arena out here.

Sad commentary on this city.

I bet Tom Petty played once here (if he ever did at all), like Rush, and never again.

:sigh:

Petty played your town in 2002 and 2006.  He played the Gorge ten times or so.  RUSH played it in 75, 76, 77, 78, 80...

I think they played once here.  I have the bootleg from the show.  The comments being made that I could hear on the bootleg were awful.  No wonder why they never came back.

I keep wondering why Brooks is so despised by you...so I did some research and oh my life he is absolutely massive isn't he?

He is barely a cult concern in the UK. His music is miles away from the mainstream. I am always gobsmacked sometimes how acts huge in the US are nothing over here!

Seriously...country music in general is a very hidden concern here.

We have Adele as our Garth Brooks over here lol I cannot think of anyone close really to that level of stature here

EDIT: here, here, here...I seem to be on commision considering how many times I used that word!

Someone saying they like country music is like saying they like Walmart. It's an indication that they're a mindless simpleton.

Here's a heartfelt tribute to Tom Petty from Ringo Starr.

With Tom Petty - Hearbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench, Petty's spouse Dana York and her son Dylan.

With Ringo Starr - All-Starr Band members Colin Hay, Gary Wright, and drummer Greg Bissonette. I believe I saw bassist Hamish Stuart (of The Average White Band) as well.

Just curious when they played there, and amazed at how many places they did play in those early years.   You see those interviews from the PWaves Tour, and how exhausted Ged looks...it makes sense.  Then comes the song Limelight...

Where did Lifeson85 run off to?  He was supposed to post more pics from the concert.

I was outbid by fifty lousy cents yesterday on a bootleg dvd of his last concert in LA.   Damn!!!  :rage:

Here's a list of RUSH dates
Man, they played a lot of shows...
I think they played once here.  I have the bootleg from the show.  The comments being made that I could hear on the bootleg were awful.  No wonder why they never came back.
If you check, they played on 75, 76, 77, 78, 80...
...and never came back again.
...'81.  :P

But, yeah, not after that.  The Gorge, Seattle, Portland, Boise or Vancouver BC after that.

Was this some kind of a game?
Just curious when they played there, and amazed at how many places they did play in those early years.   You see those interviews from the PWaves Tour, and how exhausted Ged looks...it makes sense.  Then comes the song Limelight...
Here's the interview I was thinking about...Hemispheres/Pre-Waves Tour, actually.

:(

"...there ain't no easy way out..."

I had a jacket like that when I was in high school.  Got it at Tepee Town.

Here's an interesting comment in a Rolling Stone - 2006 Interview with Tom Petty.

"Often the best interviews are given by the musicians who avoid them the most, like Bruce Springsteen or Eric Clapton. And often one of the reasons they don't like to sit down for an interview is because they are too honest and sincere in these types of interactions, unwilling to go into autopilot and parrot the same answers they've given before. This is true of Petty, who keeps extending the interview well past its appointed deadline."

Lorraine when you have time, check out this thread here, which also features a post from me in regards to Tom Petty.
