In your opinion what are very polarizing bands among rock public, bands that have a big fanbase, but also a lot of haters?

I would say: Grateful Dead - most people either love them or hate them
KISS - same as with Dead
                    U2
                    Bruce Springsteen
                    Queen
                    Guns N' Roses
                    Nirvana

Show me the lot of haters for Queen and I will show you a fanbase more than 10 times larger. I wouldn't count that ratio as polarizing, no matter the strength of the haters' despising.

Regardless, it doesn't change the fact not everyone is enamoured with them.

Very true, but I don't think that makes them polarizing. Every band has its haters. If those of Queen are more vocal than those of other bands, it's probably a response to how overwhelmingly vocal Queen fans tend to be.

I'll also say, it's probably most likely that Queen isn't a very polarizing band not for the size of it's fanbase, but for the sheer number of people who are more or less indifferent to them, or only casually like them as much as any other rock or pop group. That I think is the vast majority opinion in Queen's case, if only based on how pervasive a handful of their songs are in everyday life.

Nowadays, since the RRHOF induction, they are less polarizing, but for the majority of their career they were likely the most polarizing band out there. It was either loyal fan or "tone-deaf mouse on helium" critic.

Polarizing for sure! Glad you got to go to Washington. Being incorrectly labeled a federal gang threat was horrible. Not real into their music myself but a childhood friend married a guy in their organization; nice guy and interesting to hear about how some of the finances work in the music business.
