My wife got me hooked on this show, which is on TLC (formerly known as The Learning Channel but has had shows about pet psychics and Long Island Mediums). The stories are extremely interesting when they go back a couple of generations or more, and never fail to impress on me that despite much of the insanity going on in the world, we're pretty lucky to be alive in this particular time and place, and not just struggling for subsistence. The story of one of the celebrities (I believe it was Rita Wilson) was especially haunting, with several branches of the family tree cut off by the family having the misfortune of having lived as Jews in Eastern Europe in the 1930s and 40s.

More than just a show about heavy metal this show hosted by well known hard/metal music historian Eddie Trunk(and his two side kicks Don Jameison and Jim Florentine)is sadly no longer on the air. It was a great ride while it lasted and I probably caught about maybe half of them. The highlights for me(besides the box of junk girls)was seeing Geddy Lee talk about the order he would rank Rush albums based on his personal feelings about them and seeing a guy in the audience playing stump the trunk who I went to school with.

164-- The Starlost (1973-1974). This list needs another cheap, short-lived Canadian show. Keir Dullea stars as one of 3 people searching for the controls of a giant spaceship that is headed for destruction. The ship is split into lots of domes with each dome containing a separate culture. Harlan Ellison had his name removed from the credits. The premise sounds ripe for a remake.

162-- Finding Your Roots (2012-present). Like LABT's pick a few spots back, this show is about genealogical searches of celebrities. A minor controversy occurred over the fact that the Ben Affleck episode was edited to not mention he had slave owning ancestors.

I was going to call this one out next. I think I enjoy this one even more than Who Do You Think You Are? though WDYTYA has been on longer so I chose that one first.

I do too. I'd been working on my family tree a few years back right around when I discovered these shows.

Yeah, I loved that show too.

Have you ever seen the original Japanese version, "Gatchaman"? It's pretty different as it didn't have that little R2D2 looking storyteller and his little robot dog.

These were added to make the tone lighter....and due to the then-recently popular Star Wars. Americanized! I think of it as a California roll. ;) It's definitely good...but it IS different from the original.

Sandwiched between Friends and Seinfeld wasn't it? I thought it was loads better than Friends and occasionally better than Seinfeld. Liked all of those characters pre-Helen's sister's arrival. Antonio Scarpacci & Lowell were my favorites

Sandwiched between Friends and Seinfeld wasn't it? I thought it was loads better than Friends and occasionally better than Seinfeld. Liked all of those characters pre-Helen's sister's arrival. Antonio Scarpacci & Lowell were my favorites

I despise Friends. Awful, awful show. And Aniston, to me anyway, looks like Stan Laurel.
