Excellent matchup, very difficult choice for me. Overall I prefer Genesis to Floyd, but I probably prefer The Wall to SEBTP, yet these two songs are both top notch on and off of their respective albums...

Overall, as far as "songs" go, Comfortably Numb is probably the greater song, but Firth Of Fifth makes up for that by being a somewhat more beautiful musical piece altogether. So with that said, I'm gonna vote for Firth Of Fifth to show it some love in what looks like a probably Floyd dominated poll.

Firth of Fifth.

Floyd is a band that just gets kind of old with me. Most of their catalog from Dark Side forward is material that I feel like I've heard a hundred million times (even though I know I haven't). It just kind of wears thin with me.

going with genesis on this one. just more interesting to listen to. numb is great, but played to death. toss it in a pile of songs i don't need to hear again with stairway to heaven.

Numb is kinda the epitomy of davids guitar style, who is one of my favs

And Firth is kinda the epitope of Hackett's guitar style.

Why do I get a feeling that you've never listened to Hackett's solo albums? ;)

I have one of them. Please Don't Touch. does that not portray his style very well? I've listened to a ton of Genesis and Firth really defines in work in that context.

Please Don't Touch is a great starting point. It's pretty hard to portray Hackett's style very well, because he's not a guitarist that really stays in a specific comfort zone. The guy has done pretty much everything: pop, classical, prog rock, world music...he's just such a versatile musician. I think his most recognizable work is going to be in the progressive arena, so if you're looking for other solo albums of his that flesh out his prog tendencies, go for Defector, Spectral Mornings, and Voyage of the Acolyte.
