Let's try questions 2 & 3 in the opposite direction from yesterday's thread.

This is interesting because my least favourite album of these is GuP but these two opening songs are two of the best on the album for me, along with Kid Gloves and Between the Wheels, and they win this poll handily. In the case of HYF and Power Windows I like the opening songs but I like the later songs better and overall they're consistent. GuP has too many songs that offend my ear like The Body Electric, Red Lenses and The Enemy Within. These three songs are what ruin GuP and bring it down below lots of other albums, including the other two albums in the poll.

Distant Early Warning and Afterimage are good songs, and they are the winning pair here ... But even though I like them and they're enjoyable enough, all the songs here grade out at a B- or less, with Big Money and Grand Designs at the bottom of this barrel

Where's Steve Smith to prove the legitimacy of your post?

I pretty much agree.

I went with the GUP duo over my favorite out of the bunch...Time Stand Still.

Grand Designs is the bottom dweller here.

First duo is my choice here easily.
Least fave song - a lame tune called The Big Money!
TBM, Force 10 and TST are rated lower than B in my book.

BTW, Keep polling here, JohnnyBlaze!  :)

DEW/Afterimage win. DEW's just too strong and Afterimage's lyrics help.

GD was my answer for questions 2 & 3. It's not a bad song and parts of it I really like but I'd probably give it an overall grade of C+.

PoW's easily my fav album out of this bunch, and HYF my least favorite, but actually HYF starts off with the strongest one-two punch. Force Ten is formidable and a bit curious in structure and hook and just all around likable, then Time Stand Still might be their best pop song. I love The Big Money, but Grand Designs is really pretty average (still great considering it's Rush we're taking about). Then there's DEW, which I adore, but it's followed by Afterimage, which is lyrically brilliant, but structured and produced semi-unflatteringly to my ears.

Agree with maybe 50% of this but i 100% like the thought taken in breaking it all down.

The easy-to-imagine percentages in that sentence are mostly for vaportrailer’s sake since I know how he loves numbers and my use of them at any turn. :hail:

Grand Designs is the best synth era song, imo.

It's grown on me to become a song I really like, as have all the tracks I initially didn't care for much (Grand Designs, Middletown Dreams, Emotion Detector, Mystic Rhythms).  The songs I originally liked most from Power Windows have moved the opposite direction (Big Money, Marathon, the atom bomb and  "better beer" songs).

PoW is nearly flawless and the guitar solo on Designs is one of my favorite Rush moments ever.

Went with that and only TSS of all these falls in the B+ range.
