Great historical movies

Recommended Posts

I love historical movies and I love them best when they're accurate. It's really cool when a movie can portray history without distorting it and make it fun to watch.

I realize that there's much artistic license taken in many of the really great historical movies, but as long as the major events are true, and even if the main storyline is fictional, I think they're a great way to understand history.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Schindler's List

Tora, Tora, Tora

The Great Escape

Bridge over the River Kwai

Dr. Zhivago

Hacksaw Ridge

Lawrence of Arabia

The King's Speech

We Were Soldiers

Enemy at the Gates

Valkyrie

Selma

Charlie Wilson's War

Argo

Apollo 13

Good topic !!

The first one that comes to mind is Serpico ..

I don't know if there has ever been a actor more suited for a role than Al Pacino was for Frank Serpico

Saw a really good the other day about the Olympic runner who was in a plane crash in ww2. Think it was called unbroken

My husband and I loved the book. How amazing was it that Louis Zamperini, I think, went through all that and then went on to just live the rest of his life? The greatest generation indeed. We didn't see the movie because I thought it would be kind of intense for me.

I don't think it was too intense, it was backed at pg 13. I had never heard his story and was super amazing for sure
