What IS this thing?

I found this in a kitchen drawer. You squeeze the handle and the sproingy thing spreads apart. I have searched for photos on the Internet and asked just about everyone who comes to the house. I even took it into work one day. No one can agree about what it is:

Interesting,

Never seen that before. Does it open up? Maybe it is for squeezing a type of fruit or vegetable.

It doesn't really open up; it just spreads apart. It also has a couple of things on the handle that make me think it's supposed to rest on the edge of a bowl.

It's bothering me now. Could be some type of roller.

I've heard egg slicer, garlic press, and a few other things I can't remember but didn't make sense at the time. Oh, and whisk . . . although why you'd have exert pressure to keep the wire apart is beyond me.

...this topic doesn't appear to be showing up in "new content" - did I do something wrong ...?

It's funny because I thought it might be a whisk but I couldn't figure out the point of it retracting.

No,

I have a wisk already. One that doesn't require opening and closing. :D

When I was a kid I used to play with kitchen utensils and assorted gadgets because my parents wouldn't buy me a guitar.
