Texas King
Now I am pitting Styx against their real competitor - Kansas(not Stones). Both bands are from a same period and both are proggy(Kansas more, though). I pick Kansas, no brainer. In my book no Styx song can top this:
Permanent-Rush
Styx I like a lot, Kansas, not so much
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
Kansas in their heyday, with their original lineup, is still one of my top-5 bands ever. It's a shame they couldn't stay together.
Your_Lion
Those first 5 (or so) Kansas albums are pretty much unbeatable. Song for America is an all-time top 5 album for me.
JohnRogers
I voted Styx over Kansas, to be fair I'm more familiar with the Styx catalog. BTW when I read the thread title I saw Kansas VS Texas King.

Tick
Easy one. Kansas. I just bought tickets for a Kansas show last Friday!
goose
I prefer the campier STYX, but those first five Kansas albums are epic, indeed!
bluefox4000
Kansas easy. The first 5 is enough to throw styx out the window for me. Mick

HemiBeers
Kansas easily. Better musicianship and more proggy than Styx. I never bought a Styx album because it just sounded like typical AOR filler.

Both bands are from a same period and both are proggy(Kansas more, though). I pick Kansas, no brainer. In my book no Styx song can top this: You do understand why I did the Styx versus Stones poll, right? And for me, Styx wins again. I love Kansas, but they aren't as exciting to me as Styx, and they don't always connect with me on the prog stuff.
fraroc
First of all, f**k you for making me choose between two great bands...jk :) ....but I would probably choose Kansas due to the overall quality of their music, the fact that they set themselves apart from other rock bands by having a violinist, and the fact that their comeback album is among the greatest of all comeback albums. EagleMoon
Styx is more commercial pop than Kansas. The guys in Kansas were much better musicians. I agree about the first five albums being perfect. Definitely in my favorite albums of all time.
1-0-0-1-0-0-1
http://youtu.be/TuFkavneS60 SUCH A GREAT SONG FROM AN ALBUM I TRULY LOVE!Me too. :) That song seemed okay at first, but it hasn't held up for me. As for the rest of Drastic Measures, I hated it back then, and still do. No Robbie on violin and vocals, and too much of the Elefante brothers' influence. It's just not a Kansas album for me. As for the other album with Elefante, I like about half of Vinyl Confessions (the Kerry songs), and the other half I skip over.
RUSHHEAD666
STYNX!!! Seeing them with REO SPEEDFAGGON near my house! I have front row balcony for KANSAS! "LEFTOVERTURE" TOUR!! YES!
Blue J
I prefer Styx. I have sentimental reasons for that, but overall I just enjoy their catalog more as well.
