Chris Cornell has died aged 52

Yes. Suspected suicide.

My guess it was the Michael Hutchence kind of suicide...this sounds like it was an accident

It almost seems more like a Robin Williams sort of deal :(

Very sad news. RIP Chris.

Apparently he was upbeat and rocking in his last show; hard to believe it was a planned suicide after a great show and in the middle of the tour. But I know depression is a m***********.

As a 52 year old man, and a vocalist of 30 years this has me extremely sad. Chris is truly one of my vocalist heroes! :rose:

"found with band around neck"

mother f***ing suicide.

I truely can't identify with mental illness or depression that causes one to snap like this. Especially when you have so much in your life like a wife and kids. If he didn't want to continue to perform, or felt he wasn't up to standard, then f**k that and just do something else.

One of the best tracks on Down On the Upside. This will probably make you cry if you play it.

3. Zero Chance

I think I know the answer

I stumbled on and all the world fell down

And all the sky went silent

Cracked like glass and slowly

Tumbled to the ground

They say if you look hard

You'll find your way back home

Born without a friend

And bound to die alone

I'm thinking of your highness

And crying long upon the loss

I've found

And on the plus and minus

Zero chance of ever

Turning this around

Why doesn't anyone believe

In loneliness

Stand up and everyone will see

Your holiness

They say if you look hard

You'll find your way back home

Born without a friend

And bound to die alone

Cobain, Staley, Weiland, now Cornell. Too much, way too soon.

Someone please tell Eddie Vedder to stay indoors or something.

I think he's mostly mentally stable and doesn't shoot heroin so he's probably ok.

My impression of Eddie and Chris are reverse. I recall Eddie having a history with H but no memory of Chris having any drug issues. I don't usually keep track of such things, as whether or not someone has a drug problem doesn't matter to me when I listen to their music.

Should also note that addiction comes in many shapes and sizes. Not everyone who becomes addicted is or started out "unstable". Nowadays all you need is a toothache to end up a heroin addict.

I think that you need to do some research on depression and suicide. In a state of depression the mind does not function properly, hence the suicide.

A person in a depression severe enough to commit suicide cannot simply "do something else".

My colleague just told me about this and I couldn't believe it. I wanted so desperately to see Temple of the Dog perform last fall and I just couldn't make it happen.

As others have noted, his voice was in a class of its own, and judging by what I saw of him in Temple of the Dog, it was still amazing at his age. He was also an amazing song-writer. He played in many different genres, and his voice worked in all of them.

I was really taken aback by this.

I survived December only because I was taken to a hospital.

That's all.

I feel for his family right now.

Yeah, Cornell was an addict at age 13, relapsed again after Soundgarden broke up, but I didn't think he had had a re-relapse. Vedder is a raging alcoholic, though, so his liver may commit suicide soon.

Those of you who can't relate to mental illness and depression that could drive even the most successful person to suicide...

all I can say is: Be grateful that you can't.

Yes, it's awful and tragic and senseless. But a depressed or mentally ill mind CANNOT and DOES NOT see this.

not to steer this conversation this way. but you are lucky to never feel that way.

i have and many others have tooo.

some are able to pull back and find some solace.

some just can't. Depression can cripple. people who never have felt it.....just can't grasp it.
