I went with the single, "Promise." I recall that song being the most Rush-like.
Not a fan of this album at all. I bought it, gave it two listens, then sold it to a used CD store. (Imagine!) I kinda wish I still had it, just to keep my collection complete, and maybe give it a third chance. The lyrics just seemed too sexist to me - even rude - but I learned later that it was supposed to illustrate the "dark side of love," and didn't reflect Alex's true feelings.
Geddy's MFH is pretty cool, though.

I put a vote in for Mr. X, but it really is a tie for me btwn that and At the End.
I had a hard time with this album, too, for a long time. Had listened to it once, and then kinda put it away.
But a friend of mine had taped a promo interview Alex had done for Q107 and sent it to me. It was a great interview, I thought, and helped me figure out what Alex was getting at. So I listened to it a lot and the album really grew on me.
It also helped that they played At the End in the pre-show music selections before the concerts. Maybe there was something about hearing the song in an entirely different setting made me gravitate toward it more...I dunno. It just made me perk my ears up and I really enjoyed it.
I like the album b/c it ISN'T very Rush like - at least not to my ears. I WANT to hear them do other things and stretch their musical muscles a little more.
I definitely love the album, now.
