Under Wraps is the only Tull album I don't really like. I also went for Catfish Rising, which, while it's got some high spots, is a bit overlong with plenty of filler.

Just went for Marin on the second one, both because he's been on all but one of those albums...and because I'm biased as a guitar player. I could probably add Dave/Dee Palmer, who's orchestrations helped shape 70's Tull.

If forced to pick just one album, Thick as a brick, but it's usually shared with Benefit, Minstrel and Stormwatch

Least Favorites: (Disclaimer, I lost interest in later Tull, and can't recall a single thing off of Catfish or Rock Island; that being said, I actually really like "Roots to Branches" and consider it a later-day Tull masterpiece) : I do recall A and Under Wraps to be particularly vomitorious!

As for Influence - I love all of the mark II band. Though you missed: Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond!!!

Martin Barre certainly above all the others. Sadly I had a gig and missed my opportunity to see him recently (and he covered Porcupine Tree!) I will make it up by sitting in the 8th row for an Ian Anderson show later this Fall!!

Greatest Tull Album: I went with Aqualung. I love Brick and Songs from the Wood equally. But I think Aqua probably gave them the most exposure and allowed the others to follow.

Even though I consider myself a big fan, the only Tull album I've heard that's later than Stormwatch is Crest of a Knave. All the '70s stuff ranges from good to phenomenal, though.

Benefit is my favourite, followed by A Passion Play.

I guess that's all I can say!

IMHO Aqualung will always remain a strong contender for the 'Best Ever Album' highest position.

And Under Wraps for the 'Worst Ever Album by a Classic Rock Band'

Benefit and A Passion Play are their best albums

Martin Barre is VERY important to their sound

Anything after Stormwatch in low on my list

Can't really help myself, but the stuff after Under Wraps isn't my cup of tea. And yes, I love UW for a strange reason. There's something about the weird songs, and the even weirder production, that gets me. Just listening to it now. :AlienSmiley:

Least fave: Rock Island and Catfish Rising (Must confess that I haven't heard them in ages)

Most important member: Barre :guitar: (His playing is unique and his tone is indispensable for the Tull sound)

Best album: Songs From The Wood (and 5 or 6 others depending on the day)

Least fav: Rock Island. That's the latest Tull release that I own. Such a poor follow-up to the very solid Crest of a Knave.

Barlow and Barre for key members.

The seminal album is, of course, Aqualung, although it isn't my favorite. That honor would go to A Passion Play and Songs From the Wood.

Good call on M.U., Rick. That's a great compilation and if a person is to own just one Tull album, that would be a fine choice.

I'm still sort of new to Tull, but I know Benefit, and it's a great album

Tull and Nektar are the two groups I really need to listen to more

Remember The Future :AlienSmiley: :haz:
