  2. 2. How tough was it to choose your favorite album from 1982?

    • Hard as hell ! Don't ever put me through that again! I sobbed like a baby and snot was running down my nose without Aqualung anywhere in sight!
    • Yeah, that was pretty rough. It took ages to narrow it down, I cried for a bit, then prayed for guidance.
    • It was a little hard but not too bad in the end. That's what she said!
    • It wasn't too tough. It was going to be 1 of only 2 or 3 choices max.
    • That was a breeze. No doubt in my mind that [insert album name] was the best from '82.
    • You're an a-hole Blaze! You didn't include Marvin Gaye's Midnight Love! I wanted Sexual Healing!!!
      0
    • And where the hell's Hagar's Three Lock Box?! You suck Johnny!!!
    • I know there are only 40 options that you can actually list but you should've found a way to include one thousand. Weak showing yet again JB.

Just in case you're unfamiliar with the language of Rocky 3, the translation of the Clubberlang training montage is this:

Your number 1 choice is on the list. Additionally, "other" is also there just in case someone can't find their favorite. This hasn't happened yet.

Yes, yes, but still 50% of my Top 10 is missing. Good on you to get Rio though. This forum tends to skew metal so duran duran could be easily left out.

Whatever list I was going to put SOMEONE would've complained.

I wasn't complaining so much as noting. When are we going to get a Power Windows vs. 1985 Poll? I'm looking at my list of albums right now and Power Windows wins that year for me, but there is some competition.

I did PoW months ago I think but I think I only chose a few albums. As I keep saying, I only choose albums that I think will put up a fight. Number of the Beast is a beast of an album and it still can't win. I think even Presto and Roll the Bones won their respective years. Do a search, it's all there. If not, make a poll.

Presto vs. 3 others here: http://www.therushfo...emple-vs-junta/

Roll The Bones vs. 3 others here: http://www.therushfo...he-black-album/

Test For Echo vs. 2 others here: http://www.therushfo...elay-vs-aenima/

But when it comes to Power Windows, I only see this thread: http://www.therushfo...-albums-battle/ which is only against a Marillion album that doesn't make my Top 20 of 1985 and I barely remember even existing. Is there another thread? Also, I kind of like the RUSH album vs 38 others in a year thing better than just a few choices.

Also, in regards to only choosing albums that will put up a fight, how do you leave Def Leppard - Hysteria off of 1987?!?!?

I don't think Hysteria would've beaten any Rush. If you disagree, make the thread and find out.

King Crimson craps all over Signals and then wipes itself with Grace Under Pressure.

Scatalogically yours;

F Rabelais, doody expert

Despite a few complaints/notices, the "other" option STILL hasn't been chosen which means the options listed have been adequate.

39 options + an "other" option which by definition covers everything else and Signals STILL takes in 47% of the votes?! That's significant.

"What's wrong with you Blaze?!! You didn't list Bonnie Raitt or Rick Springfield?!! I mean, I wasn't going to vote for either and they're my #73 and #52 albums respectively for 1982 but still!!!!" - Unsatisfied TRFer

Looking at those polls, it took PJ's Ten to (barely) take down Roll the Bones?! And The Cure's Disintegration to take out Presto.

I thought Ten might win but didn't think it'd be THAT close.

I thought The Cure might put up a fight but not win.

I DO remember including Phish's Junta NOT because I thought it'd put up a fight but because I was curious what others thought of the album. That was an exception to the rule.

You'll NEVER catch me putting Moving Pictures vs any other band's album because it's a waste of a poll. I don't think the other band(s) will get enough votes.

Moving Pictures vs. Duran Duran's debut album is very very close for me. I think RUSH wins, but it is no slam dunk. Of course, I would be the only one here for which that would be the case. Oh and the best Psychedelic Furs album, Talk Talk Talk, also came out in 1981... damn. I think I might vote for that if the poll existed! I'm just saying that with a large batch of albums to choose from, the RUSH album is more likely to not reach 50%. I mean look at this poll; if it is just Signals vs. Number of the Beast vs. Screaming for Vengeance then it is probably 13 to 4 to 2 (at this moment), which looks like a landslide for Signals. I know I would have voted for Signals had Rio not been an option.

Also, for me at least, none of the 70s albums are winning any year. I mean in 1978 there are 3 Kiss albums alone I like better than Hemispheres! And that doesn't take into account that my favourite Queen album of all time came out that year. There is no poll in existence about music in 1978 that Jazz doesn't win as far as I am concerned.

Again, make these non-existent polls that you're talking about and see what happens.

And again, my polls aren't what I think are the best. They're (with the exception of Phish's Junta) to see what THIS BOARD thinks might beat a particular Rush album.

Damn, this is tough ..

Some of my favorite bands' lesser albums vs good bands' great albums

1) Number Of The Beast - Maiden

2) Electric Rendezvous - Al D

3) Assault Attack - MSG

4) Creatures - KISS

5) Rio - Duran

6) Shabooh Shoobah - INXS

6) Oriental Beat - Hanoi Rocks

7) Blackout - Scorps

8) Iron Fist - Motorhead

9) Dawn Patrol - Night Ranger

10) Eye In The Sky - Alan Parsons

11) 1999 - Prince

12) Diver Down - VH

13) Billy Idol

14) Walk Among Us - Misfits

15) Thriller

Other than Hellion/Electric Eye, Screaming For Vengeance is mostly grating filler

Filler? Riding on the Wind? I don't think so. You've Got Another Thing Coming? I don't think so. Devil's Child? I don't think so. Bloodstone? I don't think so. Take These Chains? I don't think so. Screaming For Vengeance? I don't think so. Fever? I don't think so. Pain and Pleasure? I don't think so. There's more filler in your face than there is on Screaming For Vengeance!

Shit guitar sound ... the most overrated metal album ever

Just in 3 years later to point out the insanity of this statement!

I went back to check on the release date because I was not sure, but it seems Shuttered Room by the Fixx was released in November 1982. Overall, that was a pretty good album and might be my choice from this year.

While Signals has excellent moments, it is overall fairly inconsistent. It probably is not my first choice of Rush albums to listen to.

You could be standing with Lucas in the middle of an open field on a clear blue sky day at high nooon and he'd tell you it's dark outside just....because.
