JohnnyBlaze
On September 1st, 1987, R.E.M. released the now classic album document. 6 days later, Pink Floyd's A Momentary Lapse of Reason hit the shelves. The day after that, Rush followed with Hold Your Fire. To have gotten these 3 great albums all within a week of each other is pretty lucky. Does that happen anymore? How does Hold Your Fire stack up to those two other big albums + The Joshua Tree and Appetite for Destruction? Which is your favorite? How would you rank these 5 albums? http://www.2112.net/powerwindows/downloads/wallpaper/HYFtourkit.jpg

Lucas
Appetite was not only a great album, but what it represented and did was groundbreaking ( all over again ) A lot of music fans had been waiting for something like Appetite for a long time - it was more than just an album http://rollingstoneaus.com/assets/Uploads/720x405-GettyImages-569037745.jpg I appreciate REM and have respect for them, but I never connected with them .. Joshua Tree was an album I bought, but I have had zero interest in since Momentary Lapse is something I have no interest in, even nostalgically HYF was, and remains shit . . Fridge
My personal favourite would be HYF....I have mixed feelings about this, as for me it was the last "great" Rush album...true, the rot had started to set in as the last two songs are rank rotten, but overall a fine album and the last to be truly worthy of the brand "Rush" After that GNR REM U2 PF (bleurgh!) Ancient Ways
The Joshua TreeHold Your FireDocument Haven't yet heard the other two.Appetite for destruction is amazing. You really need to give that a listen. The non radio songs are better than the stuff you've heard on radio IMO. When that album hit I listened to that daily for months. I really expected rock to go that direction at the time and replace the glam acts but we ended up with grunge which turned out well.

diatribein
1. Hold Your Fire2. Appetite for Destruction3. Document4. The Joshua Tree I've never heard A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Pink Floyd doesn't interest me enough to seek it out. Also, to be fair here, although Appetite for Destruction came out in 1987, it only became well known and a monster hit in 1988. 1987 was much more dominated by the U2 album and to a lesser extent the R.E.M. album in terms of popularity and airplay. I just don't think a poll is worth it if it's a total blow out...and I think Crest would've gotten its ass kicked. But I knew Appetite would get plenty of votes and put up a strong fight...and I don't even like that album.
