McCartney

I find the word genius to be thrown around to easily in regards to rock music. Apparently, there are a hell of a lot of geniuses out there!

I feel the best of McCartney is the best there is. With that said, you have to admit he has plenty of swings and misses in his discography.

I remember seeing McCartney in concert for the first time and he exceeded my expectations. I had such a good time hearing and seeing him perform his music.

Genius? Probably not. A master songwriter, craftsman and performer? Yes.

He's written so many classic songs... and sure, a fair amount of throwaway stuff, but his gifts are undeniable.

That live "Maybe I'm Amazed" from WINGS OVER AMERICA is timeless.

Yeah. The live version of "Maybe I'm Amazed" is a perfect storm. It never ceases to amaze me (no pun intended).

He has a lot of stuff I'm lukewarm on, but much more that I absolutely love. I saw him about 9 years ago at Fenway Park, and he was phenomenal. He played several different instruments, displayed so much energy, never mind his age, and he told wonderful stories about songs. When he's gone, it is going to be a tremendous loss to the entertainment world.

Yea mcartney's got really awesome stuff

Ram

Band on the Run

Venus and mars

Flowers in the Dirt

Chaos And Creation

Back to the Egg

Flaming Pie

Tug of War

New

Memory Almost full

but man can he go to the other end of the spectrum

Pipes of Piece

Mccartney II

Off the Ground

Press to Play

Driving Rain

At the Speed of Sound.

So to me he is inconsistent.

My favorite Beatle, still, without Lennon, he didn't have the magic. I like Ram the best. Later material wasn't so good. Edited by Gompers

I think Ram has held up very well. When it was released it was ravaged by the critics. Over the decades it revealed itself to be McCartney's most honest and sincere album. It represents all that is cool about him.

It's hard not to think he and John are not geniuses. They both did amazing things.

They worked better as collaborators than solo artists, IMO.

I'd add most of Memory Almost Full to your ON list :)

oh crap i forgot that one.

it is great.

His later period has been mostly really great.

Mick

True. It's been a lot of fun !

And the last FIREMAN record was wonderful. I think that might actually be my favorite McCartney since Venus & Mars/Wings Over America

Dude is awesome, hands down one of the best songwriters ever.

He could fart and make a brilliant double album.

I gotta tell ya, McCartney can be very, very frustrating. His albums are terribly inconsistent. I can't help but feel he includes a lot of lesser songs on his albums, some of them are embarrassing. It's like he's not even trying! And, if you explore his unreleased material and bootlegs there are songs that are fantastic. Why? The man needs an honest editor. I guess that's what he and Lennon gave each other. Anyway, the best McCartney is the best there is and he's still got it. IMHO.
