^ This was close to being my choice, but I went with Trees, Xanadu and La Villa.

Bangkok's solo is sublime. Best version of xanadu. Jacobs ladder is an improvement. Tom sawyer is close as its tempo has never been matched, then followed by yyz, for me the best musical drum solo ever. Rush were at the top of their game.

Well said. I voted for Bangkok, Xanadu and Tom Sawyer.

My criteria for choosing these was, which three do I like better than their studio versions?

Jacob's Ladder

Xanadu

A Passage to Bangkok

How can you tell the difference for the most part?

Xanadu's the one about eating melons for breakfast, for a start.

JL has a few extra keyboard runs, but sounds fairly similar.

Xanadu is the proper pitch, which is not the case on AFTK, and it sounds more rich.

Bangkok is faster and sounds so much better on ELS. Love this live version, and rarely listen to the studio cut.

With Jacob's Ladder, I just like how it sounds on ESL. Alex's guitar sounds really good and I like how he took a slightly different approach to the solo (the studio version had overdubbed octaves that he couldn't reproduce live). Neil's drums sound monstrous, too, especially the bass drum.
