Favorite Aussie Bands That Aren't AC/DC

Aussie bands have long been among my favorite, and I'm curious which bands my fellow TRFers listen to or have listened to over the years. My top non-AC/DC bands from the Land Down Under include:

Angel City

The Church

Cold Chisel

Men At Work

Midnight Oil

Crap. Clicked EDIT and killed the poll.

I like bits and pieces from some of those bands but none of them get me that excited.

Some of them I'd see at a festival type gig with multiple stages showcasing several bands BUT I wouldn't go to a show for just ONE of those bands.

Radio Birdman

Alchemist

Rose Tattoo

Beasts of Bourbon

The Saints

The Scientists

X (not the California punks, the Aussie garage)

Hunters and Collectors

Lime Spiders

All deserve attention for sure

My favorite band as an adolescent was Men At Work, but Midnight Oil is one of my all time favorite bands right now. This was easy.

Australia has produced exceptional talent.

I need to check out Angel City and Cold Chisel, I don't know either of them.

I think you'd like some of the ones I added, Goose.

Edit:

Weird that I don't know the Angels.

I like them a lot, thanks for broadening the picture!

And based on what I heard you'd definitely like some of the ones I mentioned.

Just listened to a bit of Cold Chisel as well. A bit of old and a bit of new. I like the singer a lot. Definitely more win here.

Thanks!

There seems to be a particular sentiment that I really connect with.

I couldn't decide between INXS and The Bee Gees

Michael Hutchence is a Top 5 frontman in my book

Yeah, I went with INXS. Listen Like Thieves and Kick are excellent albums.

Cold Chisel are an iconic Aussie band that never really caught on internationally. They had a hit with Cheap Wine, one of the great all-time drinking songs Angel City/The Angels had a hit with Marseilles. Out of the Blue is a song of theirs I really like. Edited by goose

INXS, Silverchair, Bee Gees, Men at Work, Wolfmother (I've been wanting to listen to more music by them, I've only heard 'Woman').

I need to change my vote.

Wolfmother and Cosmic Egg are stellar albums, but I love all of Andrew Stockdale's work.

Wolfmother are solid.

Split Enz are from New Zealand

Yeah, but close enough.

If we include New Zealand then it's tougher for me.

70's Split Enz were bizarre, but wonderful.

Not taking anything away from what they did after Neil Finn joined his older brother, but Tim Finn and Phil Judd were weird in a way I really love.

I'd still vote for the Oils, though.
