5 stars. Even though Geddy ranked it low, the only kinda clunker is Rivendell, and that still beats the majority of the albums post 1990. Top tracks? Tough. I like them all but gave Best I Can, By-Tor and Making Memories the nod.

4 stars.

Beneath is the best song. 5 stars.

By-Tor is silly, but fun and a musical adventure. And they knew it was silly, so that takes nothing away. 5 stars.

In the End is a solid 4.5

Anthem and Fly By Night are right behind at 4 stars.

Making Memories is sub par, could have been better. Still, 3.5 stars for being more interesting by far than Best I Can.

Best I Can is just a basic rock song, more fitting for the first album. Basic song, 3 stars.

Rivendell is pretty, but dull. Nevertheless it has grown on me, so I will raise it from the 1 it had on first listen, past the 2 it earned when I first gave it a real chance, and into 2.5 territory.

Four stars total...maybe three and a half.

By-Tor, Anthem, FBN, and BBB all vie for the top spot, so my votes went to the first three of those.

Making Memories and In The End are both fine, though In The End really gains a lot live. Best I Can is a basic rock track, and I don't find it particularly interesting. Rivendell really needed some self control. Two minutes would've been nice, three a little bothersome, but at four I don't care to listen to it.

4 stars. Very underrated album, but weighed down, as Rivendell's bad, and Making Memories and Best I Can are decent but nothing special (Best I Can got better live though, studio is bogged down by Geddy's overly masculine/tough vocals)

Top 3:

1. By-Tor And The Snow Dog

2. Anthem

3. In The End

This album has 2 5 star songs (By-Tor & FBN) plus 3 4 star songs (Beneath, Between & Behind, Anthem & In The End). It also has a song thats on the border of 3 & 4 stars (Rivendell).

Best I Can & Making Memories are nothing great as songs but they fit in well.

Love the cover - perhaps Rush's best.

Its close, but I give it 5 stars and it was a great taste of what was to come.

BTW - Beneath, Between & Behind is the best of the 4 star songs.

Maybe because he was "itchin' to rock"?

Overly masculine vocals - I'm picturing Danzig singing this now. Not pretty.

Best I Can fits in nicely with what they had done on the debut. NP channels The Who in his drum intro.

Great album. Lots of fun. 5 stars. Love the slide work on MM.

By-Tor and the Snowdog: 10.0

Fly By Night: 9.0

Making Memories: 7.0

We're looking at a 7.9 average…that's about right. 4 stars.

Their most underrated album. Not sure why the record didn't see their brilliance after this effort. After their next album CofS, the record company considered dropping them!! Say what? After listening to By-Tor you were yawning?

Great tunes here.

1. By Tor

2. BBB

3. Anthem

4. Fly By Night

5. Best I Can
