Ancient Ways
Nicely done, but just curious....Is dark wood popular in American kitchens?...it's not something you see much over here.I see more people with dark cabinets than not. The ones I took out were very dark and original to the house built in 1979. Wanted a change but not too light.

Blue J
Looks great, Jim! I am a big fan of the dark woods, and I like your refrigerator with it, too. And the can lights make it really nice. The tile backsplash is something I've wanted to do for awhile, but...other things have taken precedence.

ILSnwdog
Nice! Timely topic for me. How much do you think you saved by tearing everything out yourself???I don't know an exact figure. Tearing out is easy. Installing the cabinets, that is where you need expertise. I think Home Depot wanted around $7,000 to install. My buddy charged me $3,000. The rest, my buddy threw out in the dumpster at his work site. :)
GabesCavesOfIce
My new kitchen is finished. This is the kitchen when we moved in last May: Then my buddy who is a contractor helped me rip out the old cabinets. We had one hell of a bond fire the next week. We got it down to the subfloor and drywall. Then we had a flooring guy come in and replace the hideous ceramic tile from 1975 with real hardwood. Then we got new cabinets and appliances (except the dishwasher. It was a newer Bosch). Then came the granite counter tops. Finally, last week it was painted, and over the weekend, my in-laws helped me put the tile backsplash up. What a job! I'm sore today. Here is the finished product. So, how did we do? Looks terrific ILS. We are a few months away from the same Renovation, we aren't as handy, and a wall is coming down. Looks like it will cost us more than our house did way back
workingcinderellaman
My house is about 15 years old and I should probably put in granite counter tops. I just don't want to spend the money.

I had to do all my cooking on the grill and dishes in the laundry tub! And our fridge was in the living room! It was a miserable three weeks.
