You can spend your time alone redigesting past regrets oh...

Or you can come to terms and realize

You're the only one who can forgive yourself oh yeah...

Makes much more sense to live in the present tense...

Present Tense - Pearl Jam

I think my all time favorite lyrics.

I don't want to hate,

I just want to grow;

why can't I let me

live and be free?..but I die very slowly alone.

I know no more ways,

I am so afraid,

myself won't let me

just be myself and so I am completely alone....

-Van der Graaf Generator - A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers

The lyrics aren't just very deep, but the way they display it in the song makes it even more impactful

The storyteller makes no choice. soon you will not hear his voice.

His job is to shed light, and not to master.

- Terrapin Station, The Grateful Dead

"Since the end is never told,

He pays the teller off in gold

In hopes he will come back-

But he cannot be bought or sold"

You've got to shake your fists at lightning, now

You've got to roar like forest fire

You've got to spread your light like blazes

All across the sky

They're gonna aim the hoses on you

Show 'em you won't expire

Not 'til you've burned up every passion

Not even when you die

If you're feeling contempt,

Then you tell it

And if you're tired of the silent night

Jesus, well then you yell it!

Condemned to wires and hammers

Strike every chord that you feel

That broken trees

And elephant ivories conceal

-Judgement of the Moon and Stars (Ludwig's Tune), by Joni Mitchell

You'd better grab a hold of something

Simple, but it's true

If you don't stop to smell the roses now

They might end up on you

- These Important Years, Husker Du

Should I throw myself from the hanging tree'

Is there a place for those of us who don't belong' I haven't found it yet

- Hanging Tree, Bob Mould

You run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again.

The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

You slide so good

With bones so fair

You've got the universe

Reclining in your hair

I can always find someone to say they sympathize

If I wear my heart out on my sleeve

But I don't want some pretty face to tell me pretty lies

All I want is someone to believe

—"Honesty," Billy Joel

You can never know what it's like

Blood like winter freezes just like ice

There's a cold, lonely light that shines on you

You'll wind up like the wreck you hide

Behind that mask you use

—"I'm Still Standing," Elton John

Rich or poor or famous

Your truth, it's all the same

Lock your door, but rain is falling

Through your window pane

Baby, now your struggle's all vain

—"Hammer to Fall," Queen

Confused alarms of struggle and flight

Blood is drained of color

By the flashes of artillery light

No one gets to their heaven without a fight

Battle flags are flown at the feet of a god unknown

—"Armor and Sword," Rush

Broken bottles under children's feet

Bodies strewn across the dead end street

But I won't heed the battle call

It puts my back up

Puts my back up against the wall

—"Sunday Bloody Sunday," U2

Darkness, imprisoning me

All that I see, absolute horror

I cannot live, I cannot die

Trapped in myself, body my holding cell

—"One," Metallica

Masters of War

Bob Dylan

Come you masters of war

You that build the big guns

You that build the death planes

You that build all the bombs

You that hide behind walls

You that hide behind desks

I just want you to know

I can see through your masks

You that never done nothin'

But build to destroy

You play with my world

Like it's your little toy

You put a gun in my hand

And you hide from my eyes

And you turn and run farther

When the fast bullets fly

Like Judas of old

You lie and deceive

A world war can be won

You want me to believe

But I see through your eyes

And I see through your brain

Like I see through the water

That runs down my drain

You fasten all the triggers

For the others to fire

Then you sit back and watch

When the death count gets higher

You hide in your mansion

While the young people's blood

Flows out of their bodies

And is buried in the mud

You've thrown the worst fear

That can ever be hurled

Fear to bring children

Into the world

For threatening my baby

Unborn and unnamed

You ain't worth the blood

That runs in your veins

How much do I know

To talk out of turn

You might say that I'm young

You might say I'm unlearned

But there's one thing I know

Though I'm younger than you

That even Jesus would never

Forgive what you do

Let me ask you one question

Is your money that good?

Will it buy you forgiveness

Do you think that it could?

I think you will find

When your death takes its toll

All the money you made

Will never buy back your soul

And I hope that you die

And your death'll come soon

I will follow your casket

By the pale afternoon

And I'll watch while you're lowered

Down to your deathbed

And I'll stand o'er your grave

'Til I'm sure that you're dead

Last verse bolded cuz it's my favorite.
