Entre_Perpetuo Posted November 23, 2016 Share Posted November 23, 2016 The cover of an album factors into the equation of how much I like the album, as well as the equation for how interested I am in listening to it. However, the equation is different for each album, as sometimes amazing or awful music, b®and names, cited legendary or infamous status, or powerful experiences attached to the album will change my opinion of the album cover, or at least cause it to matter more or less. Compared to their other albums, Close To The Edge's cover kind of sucks (unimaginative, not representative of the sheer creative genius inside), however, the music being associated with it's cover makes me attach the two in my mind, and since the music has a more powerful effect on me than it's cover, my opinion of the cover changes for the better. It's not so bad, it's sort if ironic in a very classy style, and that is a lovely and mysterious shade/gradient of green. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's not even a question of impression, album/booklet artwork is still art as is the music, and I consciously judge it and associate it with the songs. This is especially the case if we're talking about a concept album. In the record store that I used to go to (the owner have now passed away so Im sad about that), he always let me listen to the album before I decided if I should buy it or not. So album covers do not bother me much. Unfortunately it does for me, and for some reason it is really bad. A perfect example is The Eagle- The long run The album itself is great, but when I looked at the cover at first, it made me not listen to it at all, I'm not sure why the visual look of an album can turn me away from it before I pay attention to the most important part, THE MUSIC What an amazing thread!!!!!! I can't believe I didn't write this ten years ago!!! LOL! I have seriously wasted thousands and thousands of dollars on album covers. I am totally with Narps on this one. Damn! But if you have good instinct and serious gut feelings and intuition an album cover can give you a hint of a musical genre that represents serious excellence. Again, I may have wasted thousands of dollars over the decades to fall in love with certain albums and bands, but the risk was worth the reward at the end of the day. It's true!! You can cheat now and look at an album on Apple Music and listen to samples before buying. Fuckk that shite. I'm old school and I will die by the real rock and roll sword. I still go into my local record stores and buy albums based on artwork and or song titles or pics of the band. DUH Not to hard to figure out. You young kids have no fuckking clue.So blessed that I was born in 1968! It's "DANGEROUS BUT WORTH THE RISK!" Just check out the fuckking RATT album cover, "INVASION OF YOUR PRIVACY!"
