I really don't give a shit anymore if I get a ton of hate. Can these two PLEASE go on tour with a different drummer? Granted it won't be Rush but it would at least be something....Hell, "New World Men" could definitely work as a title for the project.

Man, I've been wanting them to tour with a different drummer for years and years, but now that Geddy can't sing, I think they'd need to bring along a singer as well, or play just the songs that he can handle.

yep completely new project new music new ethos no more rush new drummer and most importantly a new singer coz Ged's singing voice is awful now and maybe even a keyboardist f**k it let rush go if the guys up for new stuff let it be totally new it'll still be Al & Ged on guitars doing their thang

and of course Neil a miss, just watched the Tom Sawyer vid in le Studio reminded me just how important that guy was to the actual sound and feel of rush what a freakin awesome drummer rush cant exist without that dude without his lyrics without his instrument bring some NEW stuff on for a few more years but god knows what it'll be without Neil cuz i cant imagine it. is a real challenge for the guys though and they cool enough to take it on obvs

Alex.....Geddy.....it's not that difficult. Just start an All Star type band and call it something other than Rush. Get a younger singer so Geddy can just concentrate on playing. Get a drummer and maybe a separate keyboard player. I don't think they should waste their time waiting to see if Neil will come around. Time is a tickin. With only one album or double album with the new project, they would probably have to tour with other acts as there would not be that much material to draw from, but I think the Rush fans would still show up. They could throw in a few Rush songs here and there mixed with new stuff. Do it!

I think he's just talking about being a musician in general. I'm sure they're working on stuff at home, and playing for their own enjoyment. Doesn't mean they're going to do anything as a band again. A lot can be read into ambiguous statements like that.

I can't believe that anyone here would want them to turn into another greatest hits band.

yeah we need new material to bitch about.

Personally, I think the last 2 tours where they included different musicians might have warmed Ged and Al to team up with other guys. It's really the only challenge they haven't explored being Rush-ish with just Ged and Al. Solo albums don't count since they were vanity projects trying to not sound like Rush.

Add a (younger) kickass drummer and a keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist that have some chops, make a new album and tour it. I think the fans would be ok with that.

I have been all for Alex and Geddy finding a young, unknown drummer and making some music ..

I also love the new Jon Anderson - Roine Stolt album .. It is the best thing Jon Anderson has done since Olias

If Geddy, Alex and Jon Anderson ( and how about Mr Wakeman too ) would announce a project, I would be really excited ..

I think it might be good to bring in another unique individual ..

After listening to Geddy and Alex's solo album last week, I am not sure if what they'd do together would be interesting enough ... Jon Anderson would blow it out of the water for me

That'd be a crap name for a Geddy & Alex music project. Of course I'd still see them because it's just a name after all.

I CAN imagine "New World Men" being the name of a Rush cover band though...but that'd still be cheesy.

Who are you? Ray Daniels? ;)

If Coverdale Page could form a musical collaboration and name it such, then so can Geddy & Alex. "Lee Lifeson" sounds much less cheesy than any play on Rush song titles for a new band name.

Lee: What if we call ourselves "By-Tor & The Snow Dog"?

Lifeson: Hmm, not sure about that one. How about "The Prestos"?

Lee: Balls. "Digital Men"?

Lifeson: Let's ask Ray.

I'm okay with Rush being retired. I think it'd be cool if they tried to make new studio-only material though. But I'm not expecting it.

If Ged and/or Alex want to go and record and perform, more power to them, but without the three of them, it won't be Rush. They could cover some Rush though.

What do you call the album they did before Fly By Night? What do you call the band for that album?

I'm just busting your balls. But at the same time, did Rutsey actually not exist? Did that debut album not exist?

I'm actually fine with replacing Peart and calling it Rush as well, because Peart's the one who quit.

That being said, it would be a terrible mistake because a great deal of people would feel the name was sullied.

Most importantly, no drummer, even one who is Peart's equal, can win that battle. The criticism would be unbearable. And obviously, Rutsey not withstanding, the Rush sound has Peart's DNA all over it, so it really would be a different band. So while it wouldn't bother me, it also wouldn't be as genuine.

Better off for them to add a drummer and call it something else.

Neil got the memo

I can imagine this going on in the Peart household...

Carrie: ((calling from the other room)) Hey Neil?!!

Neil?!! Neil?!!

Neil: ((tip-toes into the room and thinking he has a phone call, he whispers)) Tell them I'm not home. Tell them I'm abroad on vacation or something.

Carrie: No stupid. It's just a letter addressed to you.

Neil: oh.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who want that although I'm not one of those people.

If they're not going to use Rush as their name, then there's a perfect name for a new Geddy & Alex band, and they've already introduced it to the world previously in concert:

RASH !

One letter difference and it reflects their humor as well as gives a nod that the line-up just ain't the same as it used to be.

Bring in a new, young kick-ass percussionist. There's plenty of them out there. Geddy's proven more than adept as writing lyrics and Alex ain't bad at it either. Actually, Neil could still provide lyrics.

As for a new singer? Geddy's voice may not be what it once was and certainly he can't reach the notes he once could. But wouldn't they be able to cater to his voice? They could write what he can sing. There'd still be a problem performing old Rush stuff alongside new Rash stuff live in concert.

I really, REALLY want Geddy & Alex to develop a RASH!

I just saw Black Sabbath last night, they've got a young guy on drums, I don't think he's exactly Peart's skill level, but he pulled out a straight up 5+ minute drum solo, while old man Ozzy rested. Tommy Clufetos is the name, like I said, not the best in the world, but goddamn he's got endurance.

As far as accepting a new drummer there's a couple of things. First off, there are many drummers that can play Neil's old stuff so it's not so impossible to pull off. Second, no drum solos...that's when people will start to compare and bitch. Personally I like the idea of adding Jacob Moon as a vocalist/backup guitar and possibly keyboards. He has Geddy's range and does a great acoustic version of Subdivisions. I don't know if Jacob plays keyboards, but Geddy's keyboard work is really minimal so it's not hard to learn. Have Geddy sing a few songs that he can still handle.

If dead and company can forge on without jerry and phil then its easy to see that rush can too.

Or just bring in another drummer and let neil play the bongos and smoke joints.

Maybe, just maybe Neil has been waiting his whole life to pull a phil collins on ged.

I think perhaps neil feels the time is right to embrace the front man inside of him and become the new lead vocalist.
