There is no such thing as "best" when it comes to Alex. But I'd say around AFTK's - Moving Pictures he was at his creative peak. After that he got pushed into the background a lot more.

Anything from Caress of Steel through Moving Pictures is definitely on the mark.

 

I'd include Roll the Bones in the conversation too, though.
